The November 6 regular meeting of the Minden City Council focused on changes and improvements in the Water Department. Utilities Superintendent Ryan Hurst attended and explained the proposals.
A water meter that measures how much water is pumped to town from the Water Treatment Plant has been defective for the last 6 months. The department has been averaging the water usage, but the meter needs to be replaced to meet DHHS requirements. During the replacement, Hurst proposes installing a bypass line to prepare for future replacements and replacement of the inoperable fire hydrant at the water plant.
While the work is being done, no water will be pumped from the facility. Water is estimated to be off for 8 hours, but most homes and businesses won’t be affected because water will be pumped from the water towers. The project was postponed until Fall when water usage would be down making the work less inconvenient.
