Abrahamsons To Retire After Help Making Christmas Memories For Over 20 Years PDF Print E-mail

Kearney County and the surrounding area have been fortunate to benefit from Clark and Lavon Abrahamson filling in as Santa and Mrs. Claus during the holiday season. Now after more than 20 years playing the part, the Axtell couple is ready to put on their costumes for the final time.
“I always blame Mrs. Claus,” Clark teased. “Either the kids are getting bigger or we’re getting weaker and I think it’s the latter. Last year her sciatic went out after Christmas and with the pain, she’s been talking all year that this may be the end of it. That’s one of the reasons we’re retiring; it’s time.”
Although the couple work as a team now, Clark filled Santa’s boots alone when he first put on the red suit 25 years ago. The Axtell Chamber of Commerce and Axtell Community Schools held an event every year with Santa distributing apples and candy canes. They had the suit, but they needed a volunteer to play the part.
