The Minden Lady Whippets softball team opened its 2012 season on Thursday under ideal weather conditions at Augie Nelson Park.
Minden hosted the Class B Hastings Tigers in an early season contest. Hastings was sparked to the victory with a big first and fifth inning propelling them to a 12-3 victory over the Whippets.
Callie Pinkham started on the hill for the Whippets in the top of first inning when Hastings was able to string together a couple of hits followed by a key two-out hit to score two runs that put Hastings ahead 3-0 before the Tigers tacked on another run to go ahead 4-0.
