Kearney County First Bank finally broke into the win column on June 20 with a 9-8 triumph over visiting Overton on June 20. First Bank now sits at 1-6. The game was shortened to just four innings.
Overton plated three in the top of the first but First Bank took the lead in the bottom of the inning with four runs. Jay Maska walked, stole second and third and scored on a wild pitch for the first run. Tysen McDowell singled, Nate Lundeen was hit by a pitch and Zach Hinrichs singled to load the bases. A walk to Thomas Miller forced in McDowell then Lundeen scored on a fielder’s choice. Hinrichs was driven home by a single from Jackson VanLaningham.
Overton went back ahead with two in the top of the second but the advantage was short-lived as First Bank scored four more in the bottom of the second. Maska singled, again stole a couple of bases and, after Jake Kuehn walked, both scored on McDowell’s single. Lundeen reached base on a fielder’s choice forcing out McDowell and scored when Hinrichs reached via error. Geoff Exstrom singled home Hinrichs.
