Preparing for the County Fair is time consuming for 4-H members and their families. Youth who show livestock especially put a lot of time and work into getting their animal ready for the ring. Showing three different kinds of animals, Wempen sisters Melody and Ashley are no strangers to dedicating untold hours to getting ready for the fair.
Growing up on a farm southeast of Minden, 15 year old Melody and 13 year old Ashley have always helped care for animals. Their family raises sheep and goats and added hogs to the list when the kids joined 4-H.
“We raise sheep and goats so we’ve always been able to show them. My mom did hogs only when she was in 4-H so she got us into hogs and that’s why we do all three,” Melody explained.
