Kearney County is losing one of its local heros. WWII veteran Ken Curren and his wife Lucille are moving to Kearney to live with their daughter.
Curren was a farm boy in York County when the war began. In 1942, at the age of 20, he checked in at his local draft board to find out when he would have to go into the service. Learning he should have another year or two before being drafted, he married Lucille and they went on a trip out of state.
“We came home and the questionnaire was laying on our dining room table. We got married April 23, 1942 and I was in the Army June 4, 1942,” Curren recalled.
