The Kearney County Board of Supervisors opened bids for several Roads projects during the November 7 meeting. Projects out for bid were asphalt resurfacing projects on three roads and micro surfacing on two roads.
Two bids were opened for the asphalt projects. Werner Construction was the first bid with a quote of $426,872.45 and a completion date of June 30, 2018. Vontz Paving was the second bid for $498,938.21. The Vontz bid noted no problem completing the project by June 8, 2018, the date specified in the bid specs.
Highway Superintendent Randy Smith told the supervisors the completion date was set for June 8 in order to pay for the project before the end of this fiscal year. Because only one bid met all the bid specs, a motion was made to accept the bid from Vontz Paving. Supervisors Bob Swanson, Ross Bruning, Dick Schwenka, Wayne Anderson, and Larry Landstrom voted in favor of accepting the bid from Vontz Paving. Supervisors Roy John Nelson and William Pittner voted against the motion, the bid was accepted.
