Wilcox-Hildreth lived to play yet another day by defeating Loomis 51-47 to capture the D2-8 subdistrict at Southern Valley on February 23. The  Falcons (18-7) opposed the Giltner Hornets (19-5) on February 27 at Adams Central in the D2-4 with a district championship and, more importantly, a state tourney berth at stake. The game was played after press time and will be reported on next week. W-H’s last and only state appearance as a consolidated school was in 2015 when the Falcons were defeated by Exeter-Milligan 49-40 in the first round.
Loomis had downed W-H twice previously this season, once in the regular season and a few weeks later in the FKC consolation game.
The Falcons were up two, 10-8, after the first period but a second quarter advantage of 12-5 gave them a nine-point halftime cushion, 22-13.
