Wilcox-Hildreth is headed back to state! The Falcons won the D2-4 district championship, the school’s first, by vanquishing, but not eliminating, Giltner 58-45 on February 27 at Adams Central. Now 19-7, fifth-seeded W-H gets fourth-seeded and wildcard qualifier (deja vu) Giltner (19-6) in the first round at Lincoln Southeast on March 8 at 10:45 a.m.
This is the second trip to state for the Hildreth and Wilcox consolidation, last accomplished in 2015. That qualification was as a wildcard. Current seniors Caleb Springer, Garrett Ortgiesen and Riley Pool were in uniform for that team.
The first quarter was fast paced and the clock did not stop much. The Falcons scored the last four points of the period on buckets by AJ Jenkins and Springer giving W-H a lead of 15-12. Jenkins had seven points, Springer six and Lantz Grauerholz two.
