Wilcox-Hildreth’s stay at the 2018 Boys’ State Basketball Tournament was shorter than hoped for as Giltner ended the Falcons’ season in the first round on Thursday morning, March 8 with a 40-34 victory at Lincoln Southeast High School. Wilcox-Hildreth closed the year with a fine 19-8 record.
Giltner led 12-7 at the end of the first quarter. Caleb Springer got the Falcons on the board with a 3-pointer that tied the contest at 3-3. Later in the period AJ Jenkins hit back to back field goals to give W-H its only lead of the game at 7-5. The Hornets scored the final seven points of the first.
Sidney Gruwell got a bucket for the first points of the second quarter. Lantz Grauerholz and Springer each made two-pointers and when Jenkins canned a 3-pointer the Falcons were within two, 16-18. Giltner followed with a 3-pointer of their own a few possessions later and with both squads scoring nine in the period, the Hornets went into halftime ahead 21-16.
