The American Judicial system was brought to life for Minden High School seniors April 4 as they took part in two mock trials at the Kearney County courthouse. The event is a new addition to Aaron Martin’s American Government class.
“This is the first year I have incorporated mock trials into my curriculum. I attended an institute at the US Supreme Court last summer sponsored by Street Law where I learned many new ideas regarding teaching about the judicial branch,” Martin said.
The class began their education on the judicial system with a moot court for a current Supreme Court case regarding the 1st Amendment in December. They continued with a short mock trial in class in January. Kelly Hartman from the District Court office arranged for the use of the courthouse for the April 4 trials.
