The May 7 City Council meeting began with announcements from Mayor Ted Griess. He expressed his thanks to Benson Tree Service for donating the tree planted at the Outdoor Classroom for Arbor Day, commented on the positive turnout at the Minden Volunteer Fire Department Pancake Feed, and recognized all who helped make the Community Cleanup a success.
His final announcement was recognition of Ralph Layton for being a great employee and a great individual. He read a statement about Layton’s character and dedication as he served the City of Minden for 42 years as the cemetery caretaker as well as an active member of the volunteer fire department.
“Ralph, you are an inspiration to all of us and you more than epitomize what it means to be a volunteer. You embody the true spirit of altruism - willingly and unselfishly giving to others. Thank you, thank you, thank you,” Griess stated.
