The July 16 regular meeting of the Minden City Council began with recognition of City staff and volunteers who gave their time to weed the pollinator garden at Minden West Estates. Mayor Ted Griess expressed his appreciation for their efforts to maintain the public garden and encouraged others to thank them as well.
Additional information was provided for two reports before the consent agenda was approved. The first referred to a rebuild of City Well 5. Utilities Superintendent Ryan Hurst explained that during repair of the VFD for Well 5, damage to the pump was also discovered. Because Well 5 is the only City well on a generator, approval for repairs was expedited by the consensus of Griess, Hurst, and City Administrator Matt Cederburg.
Burgess Well Company of Minden was chosen to complete the work needed because they are a local company with a superior product and comparable pricing to the historical cost of well repairs. The estimated project cost is $34,242 and the well is expected to be back in the ground this week. Maintenance on related equipment below the ground will take place before the well is reinstalled.
