The Minden Public Schools Board of Education September meeting got started with the annual budget hearing. Superintendent James Widdifield presented the proposed budget and valuations.
Expenditures for the 2018-19 budget total $10.1 million down from $10.4 million last year. Widdifield gave a breakdown of the budget including General, Special Building, Bond, Depreciation, Employee Benefit, Activity, Student Fees, and School Nutrition Funds. He noted the levy is up 2¢ from last year and valuations are down 4.25%. He welcomed any requests for a more detailed account of the budget.
The budget hearing was closed following the presentation and the tax request hearing was opened. Widdifield explained the taxes needed to generate funds for the budget. Tax request for the General Fund at 65¢ will generate $8,830,723 while 9¢ for the Bond Fund will generate $1,327,073. The total tax request is 75¢ which is up from last year due to decrease in valuations but less than what could be requested because of reserves. The tax request hearing was closed once the presentation concluded.
