The Kearney County Board of Supervisors received an update on the previously discussed Corbin Towers matter during the October 16 meeting. County Treasurer Barb Lynn and Tammie Runions provided the update.
Notifications for personal property tax on a tower owned by Kearney County have been returned to the Treasurer’s Office unopened and payments haven’t been made for a significant number of years. Efforts to make contact with Corbin Towers have been futile.
Runions told the board she had recently found information that Corbin Towers filed for bankruptcy in 2003 and again in 2012. Lynn informed the supervisors they can’t pursue taxes from the years the company was in bankruptcy. All of the paperwork on the matter have been turned over to County Attorney Melodie Bellamy.
