The Minden Whippets volleyball team had the chance to advance on Saturday, Nov. 3 to the Class C-1 Nebraska Schools Activities Association Volleyball Championships in the Class C1-5 district final held in Kearney at Kearney High School.
The 12th seeded Whippets met the fifth-seeded Grand Island Central Catholic Crusaders on Saturday for the right to move onto the state championship field. Minden and GICC had just met on Oct. 30 in the subdistrict final and turned around and had to face each other for a state berth on the line.
Minden came out on the short end of a three set decision by scores of 25-27, 22-25 and 15-25 to end the season with a record of 22 wins and 12 losses and came up one game short of the state tournament after earning a berth in the 2017 state field. GICC advances to the state championship as the fifth seeded with a record of 30-4 and faces Bishop Neumann with a record of 29-3 on Thursday in a first round matchup in Class C-1.
