John Sumsion is the newest Kearney County Deputy Sheriff hired by Sheriff Scott White in June.
Sumsion, born and raised in Lincoln, began his law enforcement career as a non-commissioned security guard with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police Department. He applied for and received a promotion to officer in 2005.
“It’s something I’ve always been interested in,” Sumsion said.
Sumsion recalled a presentation in early elementary school by the Lincoln Police Department which left him interested in law enforcement. “It was cool that they carried a gun... and protected people,” he said.
