To Hike or Not to Hike?
The City of Minden is at a cross-roads and seeks public input.  You see, way back in 1995, with the development of the Optimist Park in the northeast part of Minden, the talk of a Minden Hike and Bike Trail surfaced in conversations of the Minden Chamber of Commerce, but was never pursued.  Thirteen years later in 2008, talks resumed with the City finally being awarded a Surface Transportation Grant by the Federal Highway Administration, to be managed by the Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR), where 80 percent of the project, up to $473, 265, was to be covered by the grant.  Shortly thereafter, the City Council approved the Minden Hike and Bike Trail project and agreement with the NDOR on October 18th, 2010.  Total grant cost was projected at $616,583 with an amendment passed by City Council at the June 6th, 2012, Council meeting which removed the spending cap to cover increases in project costs and ultimately to allow for additional grant funding.
