The 31st Minden Bandfest is set to host a record number of Junior High and High School bands from across Nebraska on Saturday, October 16. There will be a total of 41 school marching bands from across the state participating in the parade and 11 bands participating in the field competition.
“The most we’ve ever hosted for the parade prior to this year was 38, so this is going to be a big day for Minden,” said Todd Jensen, Bandfest coordinator for the Minden Chamber of Commerce. “We will have over 1400 students coming to town, traveling in from as far away as the McCook area, Hershey, and Stapleton to the west, Chambers to the North, Genoa to the Northeast, and York and Crete to the East.”
The Minden Chamber of Commerce sponsored event will begin with a competitive marching parade at 1:00 p.m. Junior High bands will lead the way with the larger bands following, gradually working up to the Class A bands at the end. The parade route will take bands along W. 1st Street, north on Brown Avenue, and west on W. 5th Street. A field competition at Kuper Field will follow the procession at approximately 3:00 p.m. Detour signs will be in place to divert traffic for the parade by 12:15 p.m.
