Amy Fuqua is Chamber Director
Amy Fuqua is the new director of the Minden Chamber of Commerce. Fuqua grew up in Minden and went to Minden High School before leaving for Kearney after graduation. She worked at Wells Fargo for 13 years, before leaving the bank to spend more time with her husband and children, ages eight and four.
Shortly after leaving Wells Fargo, Fuqua heard about the opening at the Chamber of Commerce, which was a part-time opening. She inquired further, and was hired as the chamber’s new director. As the director, she is responsible for setting up events, sending out the newsletter to members, enrolling new members, and “a lot of things I don’t even know yet, that I will do.”
Fuqua said, “The Chamber of Commerce is largely responsible for helping merchants to succeed in Minden.” They organize ribbon cutting for new businesses, e-mail updates, events like the upcoming Bandfest, as well as Christmas traditions. The director position used to be done by a full-time employee, as well as a part-time employee helping them out. A job that used to take 60 hours is now being done by Fuqua in the 20 hours she works per week. She hopes for the chamber director job to return to a full-time position in the future when the funding is available.
