Area Qualifies 24 Athletes For State Track Meet

The Minden Whippets, Axtell Wildcats and Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons will be sending a combined 24 athletes to the 2011 Nebraska State Track Championships on Friday, May 20 and Saturday, 21 at Burke High School in Omaha.
The Whippets will be sending six athletes from the Class B-5 district meet.
The Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons will be bring six competitors while Axtell qualified the most area athletes bringing 12 into the state Class D competition.
Minden, Axtell and Wilcox-Hildreth will get the state meet underway on Friday afternoon starting at 3:30 when Class B and D take to the track and to the field.
The first event on the track will be the Class B boys 4×800 relay with team members Chris Shelton, Rory Bruning, Thomas Sinsel and Carter Yelken.
The field events get started at 3:30 p.m. as well with Bryce Runge and Karter Rush of Axtell competing in the second flight of the D boys shot put. Brandon Benson and Heath Anderbery of Axtell and Ben Harms of WH will compete in the D boys pole vault competition. Benson of Axtell returns to the track in the D boys 100-meters starting at 5:05 p.m. He will be heat three lane five.
