Axtell Boys And Girls Place Second At Overton Invite

The Axtell Wildcats girls and boys track teams braved cold, windy and wet conditions on April 19 to compete in the eight-team Overton Invitational track meet.
The boys invite team title went to the Wildcat boys squad. Axtell edged Sargent 103 to 99 for the championship. SEM was third with 90 points.
Brandon Benson won four gold medals to lead the Wildcats to the team title. Benson won the 100, 200 and 400-meter individual events in times of 11.68, 24.51 and 55.35 respectively.
Benson teamed with Kameron Jauken, Jordan Miller and Trevor Popple to take first place in the boys 4×100 relay in a time of 46.16.
Shafer Fox was a silver medalist in the 800-meters in a time of 2:22.7 while Heath Anderbery was third in the high jump, clearing 5’4″.
The Cats 4×400 relay team of Popple, Jesse Anderbery, Jake Jelden and Fox took second in a time of 3:52.98 while Miller captured second in the open 400-meters in a clocking of 55.9.
The Cats 4×800 relay team placed third with team members Derrik Stratman, Dalton Bergstrom, Troy Rose and Dylan Thomsen in a time of 10:31.63.
