Axtell Edges Lady Falcons In D2-8

Wilcox-Hildreth and Axtell met for the Girls Subdistrict D2-8 championship on February 15 at Southern Valley with Axtell being the victor 48-39. The Lady Cats (now 14-10) postseason continues with a district final contest against Red Cloud on Friday, February 23 at Adams Central. The Lady Falcons concluded the season at 11-11, the program’s best record since ‘14-’15 (12-9). This year’s W-H seniors—Bridget Beisel, Rebecca Saathoff-Beck, Brooke Guthrie and Carlie Rupe—had a hand in a four-year win-loss mark of 40-51.
The rivals had met twice previously, both Axtell wins, on January 19 (36-29) and January 29 (45-30).
W-H had a leg up after the first quarter 10-9 but Axtell had the lead by halftime using an 11-7 run to go up 20-17.
