Axtell Hosts Annual Invite In Wilcox In Wet, Cold Weather
The Axtell Wildcats track and field team hosted the Axtell Invitational in Wilcox on Friday in wet and windy conditions.
The Axtell boys finished fourth in the team standings finishing with 57 points. Bertrand easily won the invite title scoring 120 points followed by Alma with 81 and Kearney Catholic with 64. The Falcons from Wilcox-Hildreth finished ninth with a team total of 20 points.
Brandon Benson of Axtell led the area individual performances. Benson won the 100 and 200-meters in times of 11.2 and 23.7. The junior also took silver in the pole vault, clearing 12’6″. Benson completed his meet with the winning 4×100 relay team in a time of 46.2.
Jordan Miller placed second in the long jump with a best effort of 19’2″ while taking fifth in the 800-meters in a time of 2:21.5.
Heath Anderbery for the Cats placed fourth in the 400-meters in a time of 55.9 and was fourth in the pole vault, topping 11’6″.
