Axtell Community School introduced the Wildcat Beef in School program to the community March 28 with a hamburger feed. Program committee members Rebecca Cornelius and Jayleen Landstrom are helping to oversee the local program.
“Wednesday, March 28 was the kick-off of this new program within the school system. This is a brand new program for the Axtell School District and we are excited to introduce it to the community,” Cornelius said.
Wildcat Beef in Schools is part of the Nebraska Beef in Schools initiative that incorporates local, homegrown beef into school lunches. The statewide program was started in 2014 and has steadily gained in popularity and support. More than 50 school districts across the state are currently participating in the initiative.
