Axtell’s girls faced a tough assignment hosting Class D1 top-ranked Pleasanton to tip off the season on December 5. The Lady Bulldogs proved to be a formidable foe as they topped the Lady Cats 58-32.
Pleasanton scored on its first possession to go up 2-0 but Nicole Cederburg answered for Axtell with a bucket to tie it at 2-2. From there the Bulldogs pulled away, leading 18-4 after one period.
Pleasanton outscored Axtell 16-11 in the second quarter to lead 34-15 at halftime. Jesse Bertrand notched seven points in the period.
