The Axtell Wildcat football team hosted the Arapahoe Warriors in the opening night of high school football in a non-district clash Friday.
Arapahoe scored 26 points in the second half to open up a close contest, going on for 32-7 victory.
Axtell drops to 0-1 and will try to get its first victory on Sept. 3 when they travel to Elm Creek to take on the Buffaloes with kickoff slated for 7 p.m. in Elm Creek.
The Warriors got on the scoreboard first in the game after a scoreless first period, scoring on a 17-yard touchdown run to take a 6-0 lead over the Cats in the second.
Axtell battled right back as quarterback Brandon Benson hooked up with Bryce Runge for a long 37-yard touchdown catch and run to tie the game at 6-6. Runge made the point-after kick to give the Wildcats the lead, 7-6 as the game went into intermission.
