Axtell Takes Hornets To Overtime In D2-4

The Axtell Lady Cats basketball team came within seconds of being an automatic qualifier in Class D2 on Friday in Gibbon.

The Lady Cats faced the Giltner Hornets at Gibbon High School with the winner of the D2-4 district headed to the 2013 Nebraska Girls State Tournament starting Feb. 28 in Lincoln.

Axtell almost pulled the upset, sending the game to overtime before Giltner held on for a 42-40 win. The Lady Cats end the season with a record of 17-8 just short of their ultimate goal the state tourney.
