Axtell Tops Elwood and Loomis

The Axtell Wildcats won both of their matches in a triangular with Elwood and Loomis High Schools on Thursday, September 15 in Axtell. They steamrolled Elwood 25-10, 25-13 in the first match and came from behind to top Loomis 17-25, 25-18, 25-19. With the two wins, the Wildcats improved to 7-1 on the season.
Axtell jumped out to an early lead against Elwood and never looked back in the first set, taking advantage of service errors and misplays in the backcourt. The second set started off closer, with Elwood pulling even at five, before a run by Axtell put them out in front to stay.
Senior Gabby Knoble played strong defense, managing four digs along with 10 assists and three aces on perfect 13/13 serving. Freshman Hannah Kring helped out across the board with three digs, and a block to go with four kills. Seniors Hailey Kring and Lexi Klauz-Rohde led the Wildcats with six kills each. Kring also added seven aces on 18/18 serving, and four digs in five attempts. Klauz-Rohde had one block to go with her 4/4 serving. As a team, the Wildcats only made one service error against Elwood in 47 attempts. Sophomores Gabbie Nickel and Laura Lundeen, as well as junior Jordan Miller each had two digs and Lundeen and Miller combined to serve perfectly on their nine attempts.
The Loomis game was much closer, with the Wildcats dropping the first set before roaring back to take the last two and the win.
