Band Camp For New Students Teaches The Basics While Still Having Fun

By Jennifer Sorensen
Getting a head start. 5th grade band camp was put on last Tuesday to give the incoming class a feel for band before the school year begins.
Band Teacher John Jacobs hosted the three-day event so the young students could learn the basics of band. He said, they learned how to clean and assemble their instruments plus a few notes. The camp will set them off into lessons for the summer, thus allowing the students to form a band much quicker and set the pace for the rest of the school year.  One teaching strategy he used is playing music related games, he said.
“If you’re having fun you can learn.”
