Axtell Lady Cats head coach Brad Nelson reached another coaching milestone for victories on October 23, winning his 300th career match.
Nelson, who is in his 19th year as coach, won his 300th career game as he guided his Axtell team to a home court win over Southern Valley.
“I was relieved and happy for our team that we got the victory and winning the match,” said Nelson. “I’m not sure if the players knew or not. I tried not to make a big deal so there wouldn’t be a lot of extra pressure on the team.”
Nelson began his coaching and teaching career at Santee High School in 1989 teaching social studies and coaching football, girls basketball and track and came to his current position in Axtell in 1991 coaching boys basketball.
In 1992, Nelson made the move to coach girls volleyball.
“I have always enjoyed volleyball,” said Nelson. “I played a lot while I was in college and gained interest doing that.”
