Caring Tree Sign Up Is Set To Begin
Sign up for gifts from the Caring Tree program for children high school age and young is now open.
The intent of this program is to provide gifts to children who would otherwise go without. The tree is decorated with “ornaments” which are anonymously coded and list each child’s clothing size and/or a suggested gift — information provided by you, the parent. Everyone is asked to limit the cost of gift requests to $25 or less. Secret Santa’s then sign out “ornaments”, go shopping and donate their unwrapped gifts to the Caring Tree program.
Application: As the holiday time is a busy season for everyone, the registration period runs until 5 p.m. on December 10. Please call Barb Braun at 832-1167 to schedule your appointment. And please bring to this appointment ideas for gifts that cost $25 or less, your children’s clothing size, and proof of: Your household’s monthly gross income, such as pay stubs, a bank statement or a statement or earning from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services; and your residency, such as a utility bill.
Eligibility: The income limit for a household for from one to four is $1,396 to $2,881 and from five to nine is $3,375 to $5,356 gross per month.
The Caring Tree committee will then be able to determine if you are eligible to participate in the program. A pick up time will be scheduled for you to pick up gifts from the Minden Senior Center on Tuesday, December 18 between 4 and 5:45 p.m. – gift wrapping paper will be available for parents to take home to wrap the gifts themselves. As this is the only scheduled pick up time please arrange for someone else to pick up for you if you can’t keep this appointment – gifts will not be delivered.
When parents pick up gifts they will also receive a Christmas card and a voucher to shop at The Closet. So please keep The Closet in mind if you are looking for Holiday decorations. The Closet’s hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
