The Minden Whippets boys basketball team lived to fight another day after surviving a first round battle with the Bishop Neumann Cavaliers on Thursday in the 2011 Nebraska Boys State Basketball C-1 Tournament at the Pershing Center.
The fifth-seeded Whippets met the fourth-seeded Cavaliers with a spot in the C-1 semifinals on the line. Minden used a big 13-0 run to end the third period and begin the fourth period to help the Dawgs pick up a hard-fought 56-50 victory.
Minden (22-2) advanced to the C-1 semifinal on Friday to take on the top-seeded Grand Island Central Catholic Crusaders with the winner earning the right to play for the Class C-1 state championship game on Saturday.
Minden and Bishop Neumann jostled for position in the first period with the lead going back and forth until the Cavaliers finally forged ahead 13-7 with a three-pointer and a follow to build a six point lead.
