Cats, Falcons Send Five For State Meet
The Axtell Wildcats and Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons wrestling teams competed on February 11-12 in the Class D-1 District meet hosted by Maxwell High School.
There were 22 teams in the loaded field in which the Wildcats qualified four and W-H one for the 2022 Nebraska State Wrestling Championships to be held Feb. 17-19 at the CHI Health Center in Omaha.
Axtell was led by Jacob Fox winning the 126 title followed by Ashton Hawkins winning the 195 pound title. Taaron Lavicky taking second at 152 while Quinn Bertrand was second at 145 pounds all qualifying for state. Fox and Lavicky will be making a repeat state appearances while Bertrand and Hawkins will be first-time state qualifiers.
The Falcons will be represented at the state meet by Graiden Ritner at 120 pounds. Ritner placed fourth and will make his state debut.
