The Axtell Wildcats and Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons wrestling teams competed on Friday and Saturday in the Class D-3 district wrestling meet held in Elm Creek High School.
The Cats and Falcons were in a strong district with 21 teams with only the top four placers advancing to the 2018 Nebraska State Wrestling Championships held in Omaha at the CenturyLink Center Feb. 15-17.
Axtell was able to qualify three wrestlers for the state meet starting with sophomore Dustin Klingsporn by placing fourth at 120 pounds followed by freshman Kaleb Senff making his state debut at 182 pounds after placing third; and finally is senior AJ Skaggs. Skaggs in the returning runner-up at 285 pounds and is aiming for a state championship. Skaggs won the gold at district pinning his way to the title.
