Axtell’s boys had the lead nor didn’t trail until the final minutes when undefeated Loomis overtook them and escaped with a 66-62 win over the Cats at Axtell on January 30. The Cats dropped to 11-5.
Axtell opened up an 18-6 lead after one period and were still up 27-19 at halftime in spite of Loomis outscoring the Cats 13-9 in the second quarter.
Loomis heated up in the second half tying the contest by the end of the third period. The Wolves had a 23-15 advantage to knot the score at 42-42. Then in the fourth Loomis eked by the Cats outscoring Axtell 24-20.
