Axtell got out to a 10-0 lead and Wilcox-Hildreth struggled from the field most of the contest in the Cats’ 62-34 win over the Falcons at Wilcox on January 22 in an FKC showdown. Axtell’s record went to 6-10 and W-H’s slipped to 5-10.
Five Cats scored points in the first quarter as Axtell was ahead 12-3 at the end of the opening period. Triston Nicks’ three-pointer about halfway through the quarter was all the Falcons could muster as 1-10 shooting and six turnovers limited their effectiveness.
Neither team got much offensive production for the first five plus minutes of the second period, but the Cats started scoring with regularity after that and had a 13-7 advantage in the quarter to lead 25-10 at halftime. Rylee Hursh connected on a three for W-H while Cal Johnson scored five and Gavend Cole four for Axtell.
