Eleven schools were represented at the Axtell Track and Field Invitational on April 5 in calm conditions early but with quite brisk south winds in the afternoon.
Both Axtell and Wilcox-Hildreth had numerous athletes (boys and girls) not competing due to state conventions in other activities, but Axtell’s boys continued to dominate, scoring 158, well ahead of Bertrand (108), Loomis (84), Alma and Elm Creek (50 each). Wilcox-Hildreth scored nine for ninth.
The Cats won ten events. Lane Bertrand broke the school record in the 110 hurdles winning at 15.2 (Old record-15.3 by Richard Shanahan in 1998) and he also captured the 300 hurdles and the 400. Creighton Kring also took gold in three events—100, 200, long jump. Other firsts came from Lincoln Trent (800), Zach Hinrichs (1600), Jaron bergstrom (3200) and the 4 x 800 relay team of Tom Peterson, Elijah Lopez, Calvin Johnson and Hinrichs.
