Mayor Ted Griess presented a proclamation of commendation to City Administrator Matt Cederburg during the November 7 regular meeting of the Minden City Council. The proclamation was in appreciation of Cederburg’s work to benefit the community during his time as City Administrator which will end on December 1, 2022. Griess proclaimed the date as Matt Cederburg Day.
Cederburg met with Retail Strategies, a company that promotes economic development by connecting businesses with communities. The company has worked with communities across the county including Holdrege and they have ideas for bringing new businesses to Minden. Cederburg told the council he believes the cost to hire Retail Strategies would be reclaimed through tax revenue from new businesses within ten years or less.
A representative from Retail Strategies spoke to the council telephonically during the meeting. He explained how the company actively recruits businesses for communities in three steps: data work, real estate study, and active recruiting. While Minden has expressed interest in bringing hotels to the community, he advised starting with other businesses like restaurants first to bring tax revenue into the community faster because hotels take time. Taking this route, he believed the City could see an estimated payback of $50,000 in five years. No action was taken during the meeting.
