Chamber Announces Christmas Traditions Schedule

The Christmas City’s annual traditions are set to begin soon. As always, there is a variety of events to attend and a lot of Christmas joy to be shared.
Friday, November 23 will have several events presented by the Minden Chamber of Commerce. First, the Holy Family Catholic Church of Heartwell will be at the Senior Center in Minden between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to wrap gifts for interested citizens. They will also have soup and pie available throughout the day.
Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will be available at the Minden Opera House from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Families are asked to please bring their own cameras for pictures with Santa and his wife.
From 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the movie “Arthur Christmas” will be played at the Opera House as well. It will be open to everyone, free of charge, courtesy of the First Bank & Trust Co. of Minden.
Then, The Windmill (located in the building formerly occupied by Shay’s and Watson’s) is hosting the Christmas Carnival from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Local businesses connected to the Chamber of Commerce will have carnival games set up for kids of preschool-age through sixth-grade. Tickets will be given as rewards from each game, which can then be put toward any of the prizes offered by the local businesses. The winners will be announced after the Christmas Parade.
Adults can also participate for an award of their own by making purchases in select businesses during Thanksgiving week. A deposit box for these tickets will be located at the carnival in The Windmill, and the winner will receive a $250 gift certificate to the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City plus a $50 gas card.
The crowning of Miss Christmas City will take place before the parade, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. and take place around the square. All awards, including those for the parade, will be given afterward.
Then, at 7:30 p.m. in the Opera House, a variety show, “A Christmas Revue III” will be performed. The performers include: Sharon Adkins, Alex and Carlie Bauer, Chloe Beck, Dave Bunger, Dan Davis, Makenna Dornhoff, Lola Duffey, Brette and Jeff Ensz, Dan Frizane, Glen Haselbarth, A.J., Jadyn, Jeff, and Laura Horner, Laura Lynn Horst, Jeanne Jons, Don Phillips, Lori Sirek, Kimberly Strobel, Courtney Thompson, Cheyenne, Kaitie, and Leta Vahl, Dance Minden, and Just Dance.
The cost is $7.50 per adult and $5.00 for those aged 12 and under.
The Christmas Pageant will have its first performance on Saturday, November 24th at 7:00 p.m. on the square. The other show dates are December 2 and 9, both Sundays.
Auditions for “Annie” will be held at the Minden Opera House on November 25th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and on November 26th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The play itself will be performed between February 28th and March 17th.
Then, “A Christmas Revue III” will have a second show on December 2nd at 2:30 p.m.
The 2nd Annual Christmas 5K Fun Run/Walk will take place Saturday, December 8th at the Minden Fire Hall beginning at 8:30 a.m. for the Little Elf 1-Mile and 9:00 a.m. for the run/walk.
Participants are asked to please arrive 30 minutes before the race begins in order to check in.
The race will have four age groups (15 and under, 16-25, 26-35, and 36+) and each group will have a male and female division.
The three runners with the best times in each division will be given awards, as well as the male and female with the most Christmas spirit. Costumes are encouraged.
Every entrant will receive a race T-shirt upon registration and the Minden Rotary Club will host a free will breakfast after the race.

Finally, the Chamber and area businesses are holding a “Get Caught Shopping in Minden” promotion between November 24 and December 24.
Citizens “caught” shopping in select businesses will be given Christmas City Cash and have their picture taken. The winners will be be posted in the Courier.
