Childhood Memories Inspire Sweet Business Venture

Childhood memories of Carlson’s Bakery in Minden inspired Lorane Holsten’s dream of owning her own bakery.
The Minden native officially opened “Lorane’s Sweet Shoppe” on Thursday, Oct. 28.
Nestled under a bright red awning on north Colorado across from the city office, Minden’s newest business offers made to order pies, cinnamon rolls, gourmet cakes, speciality cheese cakes, cookies, and edible centerpieces.
“I’ve always wanted to start my own little bakery,” said Holsten. “I’ve done quite a bit of custom baking out of my home for people and for the Farmer’s Market.  In fact, I had one lady order 18 pies in one day at the Farmers Market.  I wanted to expand so I talked to a health inspector about what I would have to do to take it to the next level.  He told me I needed a commercial kitchen to get my license for industrial baking.”
The empty storefront on Colorado Avenue gave Lorane the ideal location for her bakery.
