Most back to school shopping lists include pencils, paper, and folders but for MHS sophomore Chloe Beck, the list included luggage and a visa. The 15 year old daughter of David and Dena Beck will be attending school in Spain for the 2017-18 school year through the Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) program.
“I had traveled to Ireland between 6th and 7th grade with my dad and that kind of sparked my interest in going abroad more. So when my mom suggested Rotary Youth Exchange to me, I thought it would be really fun,” Beck said.
She then attended a Rotary meeting in Kearney to learn more about the RYE program. Although she hoped to return to Ireland for her year abroad, Beck learned she wouldn’t be able to attend an English speaking country through the RYE program. Despite the disappointment, she decided to pursue an exchange.
