Norris Christensen graduated from Minden High School in 1943. While he planned on continuing his education by attending college, that option was put on hold when he was drafted into service.
“I got three months out of high school and I was in the service,” Christensen recalled. “I was trying to decide what college to go to and before I got that worked out I got the slip from Uncle Sam to report to Omaha.”
At the age of 18, Christensen was approved for service and enlisted in the Navy. He attended basic training and awaited the completion of the ship he was due to sail on in the Pacific Theatre of WWII.
