City Council Approves Minden Housing Request

The Minden City Council had a short agenda for the November 21 meeting led by council member Larry Evans.
Kearney Housing Agency Executive Director Carrie Hardage presented Minden Housing Agency’s annual audit and report. The Housing Agency is celebrating their 50 year anniversary with an open house celebration December 20. Hardage said the public is invited to help commemorate the occasion with refreshments from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at East View Court Apartments. During a brief history of the facility, Hardage revealed it was originally operated as a housing complex for the elderly and aging. As part of an attempt to aid with housing shortages, East View Court Apartments was later changed to include low income housing as well.
In addition to  providing affordable housing, residents are given access to elderly supportive services including the Nebraska Senior Health Insurance Information Program that helps residents choose Medicare plans that are most beneficial and cost effective. Independent Living Specialist Misty Hasselquist assists residents with those services which have saved Kearney Housing Agency residents over $47,000 in the last year.
