City To Gather Opinions On Backyard Chickens

The Minden City Council agreed to delay decision on the proposal from Dawnel Vargas, Minden, for an ordinance change to allow chickens as pets within city limits at their meeting on Monday, May 7.
In her request to the council, Vargas said, “By crafting a just and well thought out pro-chicken ordinance, progressive cities such as Minden can allow interested residents the right to keep chickens while also addressing the concerns of other persons.”
Her proposal included a recommended $50 annual permit fee to cover administration and enforcement costs, a limit of four hens, no roosters and no selling of eggs or chickens on the premises.
