Colleen Ruth Steinkruger, 82, of Minden, formerly of Upland, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Bethany Home in Minden. Celebration of life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Craig Funeral Home in Minden with the Rev. Marcia Dorn officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. The current recommendations for faith based services will be followed and the use of a facemask is encouraged. There will be no visitation as the family has honored Colleen’s wish to be cremated. Memorials in Colleen’s honor are kindly suggested to the family for later designation. Craig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Colleen was born on March 5, 1938 in Smith County, KS to Roy and Clara (Baumann) Marran. She grew up on the family farm in Smith County and later graduated from Franklin High School. She later attended nursing school. She was united in marriage to Merle Steinkruger and to this union, three children were born: Steven, James, and Tamara. The couple later divorced.
Colleen was a member of the Upland United Methodist Church and later the Minden United Methodist Church. She was employed in the dietary dept. at the Franklin County Hospital for many years, where she met many close friends and co-workers. She retired in March of 2015. Colleen served as a 4-H leader for many years and was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included painting, artwork, and spending time with her friends and family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Tammy Johnson of O’Fallon, MO; son, Jim Steinkruger and wife Brandi of Upland; grandchildren, Luke and Jenna Johnson of Beverly, MA, Dylan Steinkruger of State College, PA, and Emma Steinkruger of Upland; daughter-in-law, Lisa Steinkruger of Upland; step-grandchildren, Susan and Chad Fries of Minden, and Scott and Savannah Johnson of Minden; step-great-grandchildren, Gage, Gracie and Bailee Fries and Hailey, Rilynn, Landon, and Jhett Johnson of Minden; as well as a host of extended relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Steve Steinkruger; son-in-law, Ed Johnson; brother, Royce Marran; and sister, Carol Gering.
