Community leaders met May 11 for their weekly COVID-19 discussion and update. Youth sports and swimming pools were greatly discussed again as state regulations will allow organized team practice and school weight rooms to open on June 1.
While these and other restrictions will soon be lifted and the state begins to reopen, Two Rivers Public Health Department Director Jeremy Eschliman noted we are entering one of the most dangerous times of the pandemic due to increased exposure. He cautioned we will likely see a spike in cases as a result and testing is still limited.
Many community members on the call were anxious to begin team practice believing it will give young people a healthy outlet after so much time being stuck at home. With distancing regulations among dugouts and spectators, there was a general feeling that baseball and softball should be able to take place safely.
