Audience members are invited to take a trip down the rabbit hole to a world where everything is nonsense and the characters are all mad as the Minden Community Players present ‘Disney’s Alice in Wonderland Jr.’ August 11-13 and 18-20 at the Minden Opera House.
More lighthearted than the classic novel and modernized from the 1951 animated Disney film, the play follows Alice as she stumbles into Wonderland and tries to find her way home. Along her journey she has wild adventures with a host of colorful and well recognized characters including the White Rabbit, the Dodo Bird, the Tweedles, the Caterpillar, the Mad Hatter and March Hare, the Cheshire Cat, and the Queen of Hearts. In addition to the famous characters of Wonderland, the audience will enjoy a score that includes new arrangements of classic Disney songs like ‘The Un-birthday Song’ and ‘Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah.’
Brought to life by a cast of 35 actors, the presentation is directed and choreographed by Erin Reid and Whitney Kreutzer. The pair has been involved with the Minden Community Players as choreographers for several shows. Their schedule with Just Dance Studio made it difficult for them to be more involved in the theatre until they were approached to direct the 2017 summer production. The two jumped at the chance and chose ‘Alice in Wonderland Jr.’ for their directing debut because of their familiarity with the story and the simplicity of the production.
