Connie M. Thompson, 76, of Minden, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at Kearney County Health Services. Memorial services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2020 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Hunzeker officiating. The service will also be live streamed to the funeral home’s Facebook page. There was no visitation as the family has honored Connie’s wish for cremation. Memorials in Connie’s honor are kindly suggested to Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Craig Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Connie was born May 26, 1944, to Milford and Vera (Spargo) Mattison in Kearney, Nebraska and grew up in the Franklin and Minden areas. She was baptized and attended First Presbyterian Church in Minden. Connie attended Minden Public Schools and maintained many friendships from those years. In 1960, she was united in marriage to John Jensen. Of their 12-year union, four daughters were born. In 1974, she joined Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden. She married Lathan Thompson April 2, 1975. They made their home in Minden, Nebraska.
Connie was fondly recognized as “a hard-worker” for her 35-year employment in local retail, including Coast to Coast and Jack and Jill/Food Pride in Minden. She later worked at Baldwins, in Kearney, for five years.
Connie loved her church and bible study. She enjoyed watching Husker Football, doing crafts, and reading non-fiction books, biographies, and memoirs. She wrote poetry and loved her family, including many aunts, uncles and cousins. Connie enjoyed a 20-year pen pal relationship with Queen Elizabeth II.
She is survived by her husband, Lathan; her daughters and sons-in-law, Torri and Dan Marlatt of Minden, Julie and Kevin Krull of Minden, Kerri Sue and Scott Waneka of Lakewood, CO, and Tobbi and Mark Hansen of Minden; her grandchildren, Josh Marlatt of Orlando, FL, Jacob Marlatt of Overland Park, KS, Spencer (Regina) Krull of Kearney, Quincey (Will) Miller of Cranford, NJ, Cody (Lindsey) Krull of Minden, Britney (Zach) Puetzer of Highlands Ranch, CO, Maddi Waneka of Kansas City, MO, Nick (Erica) Hansen of Minden, and Andrew (Lacy) Hansen of Lakewood, CO; and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Kaye Foster of Riverton; brother-in-law, Carl (Barb) Thompson of Syracuse, UT; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends. She rarely met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her father, Milford Mattison; mother, Vera Benson; and step-fathers, Burton Schroder and Benny Benson.
