Council Accepts Chapter 94 Proposal

The Minden City Council voted 3-1 to accept the amendments to Chapter 94 of the Municipal City Code recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday night in front of a packed house of more than 50 citizens.
City Administrator Brent Lewis was not present at the meeting.  According to a statement made earlier to the Courier by Mayor Roger Jones, Lewis had been placed on temporary administrative leave Monday morning.
The mayor apologized to the standing room only crowd about the lack of seating.  “By the way, folks I do apologize,” said Jones, “We were fully intending to move to the fire hall tonight. I was already getting the plan to do that when I found out there was the Optimist Soccer check-out so there’s no room back there, but we would have done that this evening to accommodate everybody.”
Following approval of the consent agenda, Mayor Jones appointed Cheryl Ryan to replace Tammie Petersen on the Library Board.
Monopolizing the night’s agenda was proposed amendments by the Planning and Zoning Commission to Chapter 94.
Gary Martin, Planning and Zoning Commission spokesman, explained the proposed amendments to Chapter 94 prior to the public hearing.
“I am not here as an official representative of the commission, but approximately three or four meetings ago I suggested that when Chapter 94 came up it might need some explanation,” said Martin, “and there are no objections for me to come up to talk, but a lot of the comments will be my comments.  The commission knows I’m here doing this.”
